We Love the Sonic Movie (Spoiler-Free Review)

We Love the Sonic Movie (Spoiler-Free Review) So, we saw the Sonic movie for our Valentine's Day date. Do you know what? We really, really liked it! We think it's a lot of fun!

Sure, the big star of the film is Jim Carrey, playing a very different Doctor Robotnik, but he's just one talented actor in this film. James Marsden somehow manages to give a believable performance against an all CGI character, taking on the role of Tom Wachowski, a wholly new character for the movie who nonetheless is endearing due to Marsden's impressive performance, and the character's well written character arc.

Of course Ben Schwartz is great as Sonic, but one character that took us by surprise is Maddie Wachowski, played by Tika Sumpter. We really enjoyed the dynamic between Maddie and Tom, and seeing Maddie's extended family was a highlight of the film for both of us.

The Sonic movie is probably not the film a lot of people expected or even wanted. That's not to say that it isn't really great in its own right - the story that it sets out to tell is communicated well, and it left us both smiling from ear to ear.

As this film is proving a little divisive among critics, we just wanted to let you know that we had a great time.

Lots of love,
