Top 10 Most Corrupt Mayors Sometimes our leaders and elected officials cheat. When they do it it’s called corruption, fraud, conspiracy, theft of government funds, tax evasion, extortion, racketeering, and insurance fraud to name a few. Can you say corruption? The people on this list can. They heard it a bunch during their trials. Most people don't realize how much a bad mayor can cost a city. Real estate prices drop, lawyers have to be paid, insurance gets expensive, and then there is the stain a bad mayor leaves on a city. Nobody wants to open their new company in a town that doesn't have its crap together. If you don't have companies bringing in jobs you don't have people buying homes and having mortgages that bring in tax dollars. Next thing you know your cities businesses are mostly personal injury lawyers, bail bonds and companies that buy structured settlements.
We hear so much about government corruption these days, it almost sounds like its something new. But trust me, it's been going on since before the Romans.
It’s not just big-time politicians. Sometimes it’s local politicians. Like your mayor. You know the dude that gives people an oversized key to the city.
The United States has seen a bunch of cities that had mayors do time.
Some did a little time and others got a big ride. Like 20 years' worth.
Today we are looking at cities with mayors who went to prison and for how long.
