The Scholar Newspaper: Success Story

The Scholar Newspaper: Success Story Hurrah! The Scholar is two years old!
Exactly two years ago, the first edition of The Scholar Newspaper, a biweekly publication of Scholar Media Group Ltd rolled out of the printer, becoming one of the most sought after newspapers for thousands of readers.
The first edition lit excitement in social media and other platforms, with readers saying that this was a paper to watch.
Unknown to our readers, our intention was to have the paper circulate in Nyanza counties and the South Rift for a year before we could extend our tentacles to the rest of the country.
It was rather interesting that two months later, the demand for the paper soared, with scholars and newspaper vendors from as far as Mombasa and Mandera making calls to receive copies.
We had to crack our heads and heed the readers’ calls and it feels so good that The Scholar is cutting itself a niche in the newspaper industry in Kenya and beyond.
Already, we have presence in most of the counties.
From a small beginning, the paper has pulled thousands of readers, posing a challenge to us to strive and offer the best.
We have chosen to give space to issues that are often ignored and the voices that have not been heard before.
While it is true that you cannot delink politics with our way of life, we have chosen a path where we do not want the reader to believe that politics is food that they cannot do without.
This is why topical issues have graced our front page for the past two years and we do not have any intention whatsoever to change this policy any time soon.
Of course, we appreciate the role politics plays in charting the way to our destiny and we cannot ignore it in totality and that is why you will find a number of political stories in our editions.
Running The Scholar has been a learning and eye-opening process.
With a young crop of journalists, it has been a journey for us in ensuring that this does not become an excuse for not giving you quality stories.
Indeed, a keen reader who has walked with us from the start can confess that we have made significant strides thus far, but let us be quick to say that we have just started and we are headed far.
We want to salute our correspondents from various parts of the country for agreeing to walk with us in this long yet promising journey.
We also applaud our resident expert opinion writers (columnists) who have ensured that their pages do not come void of their articles despite the pressures they have in their engagements. These are some of the articles which make the paper stand out.
We promise that this paper will improve as time goers by.
We cannot forget to graciously thank our marketers, vendors, regular readers, especially those who have subscribed to be getting our copies for every edition either for themselves or for their learning institutions.
The country’s media industry is at a critical stage where newspapers are struggling to reach the shelves and your support cannot be underestimated.
We too have a website (www.scholarmedia.co.ke) and online TV (The Scholar TV) that continues to give impeccable news to online consumers, world over.
We believe that we are on the right track, not because of our own selves but because, you, the reader, has been exceedingly supportive in this walk.
We hope that you do not have intentions to watch us go astray, because this is your paper and you need to own it for educative, informative and entertaining articles. This, indeed, is a family paper, a paper for everyone.
Our advertisers have been good to us. We hope you will not abandon us but will pull more to our side.
One more thing; While there is a distinction between the investors and the editorial team, we can reveal here now that the name of this paper was decided by the later.
After scratching our heads and floating several names, we settled on The Scholar, and The Scholar it became!
It was such a risk, for we were not very sure if this was the most ideal name but it definitely was.
On that note, we thank members of the ScholarMedia Digital WhatsApp group on whose foundation this paper was built.
Keep it The Scholar!
Editorial!
