Motion picture armorer Larry Zanoff takes us deep into "The Vault" at Independent Studio Services (ISS), a movie prop house based in Sunland, California. He shows us a replica of the U.S. Navy Mark 12 Special Purpose Rifle (SPR) he and his crew built for the movie Lone Survivor. (The movie is about Operation Red Wings, an ill-fated mission in Afghanistan involving four U.S. Navy SEALs only one of whom, Marcus Luttrell, survived.) Action movies may move fast, but Larry and his team do not cut corners on historical details, so this MK12 SPR is built on an actual M16A2 receiver. It has the correct scope right down to the mount, dimensionally correct dummy sound suppressor, "chipmunk cheeks" SOPMOD adjustable buttstock, bipod, rail covers, AND of course, a properly weathered-and-worn desert paint scheme. Larry also explains a bit about the role of his props during filming - and even after principal photography is finished. Earlier videos about ISS and Larry Zanoff: and
