You have some really inexpensive aquarium filters available online or at pet stores to buy these days. Like the sponge filter, under gravel filter, Small hang on back filters etc. I came across a bowl filter at a local pet shop close to me. I was charged Rs.50 which is less than a dollar. Making this filter cheapest one I ever bought for a nano aquarium. However, this bowl filter needed a little DIY to increase it's efficiency. So I added bio-sponge for beneficial bacteria to accumulate in the sponge as this would keep the water clean. I did this because I get lots of questions asking if a certain fish can be kept without a filter? The answer is 'Yes', but its very difficult to keep a fish without filter & keep the water parameters stable. Hence, I though the best way would be to make a video on probably the worlds cheapest filter which can be bought online or at the pet store. I think I may have been successful with it. This filter maybe a good option over a sponge filter, as the bowl filter allows you to add filter media in the container below. You can use bio-sponge, ceramic rings, lava rocks, even activated carbon into it. It's suitable for small aquarium like a 10 gallon or 5 gallon tank. In the video aquarium you see is a 5 gallon aquarium with this filter. I've used the same filter in a 10 gallon community aquarium with Betta Fish. This small but effective filter maybe a good alternate for Betta fish aquariums & also are fry safe. i hope you like the video; any questions please leave a comment.
