Broken Hockey Sticks Are Turned Into Artificial Reefs

Broken Hockey Sticks Are Turned Into Artificial Reefs Researchers in Florida are turning broken old hockey sticks into artificial reefs. Why hockey sticks? Dr. Mike Parson of Florida Gulf Coast University said, "They're carbon composite material. So they don't break down easily, so you're throwing them in a landfill. And they're just sitting there." The repurposed sticks will soon be home to marine life, including oysters. And those oysters help filter water, potentially thousands of gallons a day.
