Russia: Police officer risks his life as man threatens to throw infant off balcony

A police officer rescued a five-month-old girl as her father threatened to throw her off a third-floor balcony, in the Russian city of Saransk on Monday.

Upon the arrival of the police, the man, who is believed to have acted under the influence of alcohol, took the girl by the legs and hung her upside down from the balcony.

Footage shows lieutenant Vasily Martynov approaching the man on the ledge and then pushing him into the room in an effort to save the infant girl.

Commenting on the incident, Martynov said, "I do not consider myself a hero," before adding, “I think anyone would have done the same."

Following the incident, the man was detained by police, and the child was taken to a local hospital.
