The Ramistella family moved from New York toBaton Rouge, Louisianaeven as a child. Johnny was influenced by Louisiana's distinctive musical style and began playing guitar at the age of eight, taught by his father and uncle. Although he was still in high school, he began to sit in the local music scene, with a band called The Rockets,led by Dick Holler, who later wrote a number of songs including « Abraham, Martin and John" and "Snoopy vs. Snoopy" the Red Baron."
Ramistella formed his own band, The Spades, and recorded his first album at age 14, when he was still a student at Baton Rouge.com. All his music was recorded by the Suede label as of 1956.
He reunites with JamesBurton,a guitarist in a band led by Ricky Nelson. Burton recommends one of Rivers' songs, "I'll Make Believe", to Nelson, who recorded it. They met in Los Angeles in 1961,where Rivers later found work as a composer and studio musician. His big break came in 1963,when he took the place of a jazz combo at Gazzarri, a nightclub in Hollywood, where his instant popularity attracted large crowds.
From that time to date, Rivers has released more than thirty studio albums, performing concerts around the world and has played with prominent musicians such as Eric Clapton,TomPetty,Paul McCartney,George Harrison, Pink Floyd.-
On June 12,2009,Johnny Rivers wasinducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. His name has been proposed many times in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but he has never been selected.
