Tainted alcohol in Costa Rica. Methanol poisoning in Costa Rica. 20 Dead in Costa Rica. Should you travel to Costa Rica? Could you die from alcohol poisoning? The Costa Rican Health Ministry has reported that 20 people have died from drinking alcohol that was tainted/mixed with methanol. The investigation continues, but as of July 22nd, the Costa Rica Ministry confirmed that 15 men along with five women died after drinking the tainted liquor. The victims range in age from 32 to 72 years old. A few more have suffered severe effects. 41 people are believed to have consumed the tainted alcohol. Of those who died from the alcohol 18 were Costa Ricans, one was from Nicaragua. The latest victim has not yet been identified.
