Hi, I'm Byron with the McCauley Agency. Just the other day, a longtime client of ours called and asked will homeowners insurance cover windows? Apparently one of their children had accidentally broken a window in the house. And if you've ever had to replace a window in your house, you know that it can get pretty expensive. So the answer to the question is that in general, if you have an all perils policy, any kind of accidental damage to your window would be covered. But in a lot of cases, the deductible is higher than the actual cost of replacing the windows so it doesn't really make any sense to file a claim.
However, for this client in this situation, we had added a waiver of deductible endorsement to their homeowners policy for their windows. And so what that did, it was a fairly inexpensive coverage, and what that did is it worked just like the zero deductible coverage on an auto insurance policy. There was zero deductible to replace the window. The family got a new window, their child learned a lesson, and they were really happy that they had added that coverage. So if you have young children, if you live near a golf course, if you have ever had to replace a window and you're interested in moving that expense or that risk from you over to an insurance company, we'd love to talk to you. So please give us a call at (480)-839-6401.
