The extraordinary power of everyday education | Anand Rathi | TEDxJLU

The extraordinary power of everyday education | Anand Rathi | TEDxJLU 1. Literacy is not education; Failure is the truth
2. Studying the text about something means nothing if you can’t understand and deploy the practical value of it. Most of our education system assumes life will go up and up. Schools are meant to display board results and Universities are meant to sell placement statistics so they are not incentivized to tell you that there may be hardships even after your hard-earned education. It is only life that comes unfiltered and teaches you the harsh reality of failure.
3. Three types of education that exist out there is one of the books, one of time and one of experiences.
Anand Rathi’s story runs parallel to Madhavan’s character in the movie 3 Idiots, although Anand discovered his true passion not after one but two degrees!

Anand grew up between Jodhpur and Jaipur. He was an ace student in his school days and given our social structure and educational system, being good in academics almost inevitably meant gravitating towards engineering or medical sciences. His merit in competitive exams saw him getting selected into one of the most prestigious computer science colleges in India, IIIT Hyderabad. His college life was exciting but somewhere down the line he realized he was not cut out to be an engineer. Although he got campus placement in a very reputed company, he ended up not taking the job! Straight out of college, he dived into the stock market but unfortunately the market dived too! Anand decided to hone his finance skills better by attending an MBA program. He was selected by a prestigious school in New York. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
