Sir Philip Rutnam's resignation 'extraordinary' and 'unprecedented' says former Civil Service Head

The resignation of senior Home Office civil servant Sir Philip Rutnam has been described as 'extraordinary' and 'unprecedented' by Lord Kerslake, the former Head of the Home Civil Service.

Sir Philip resigned on television and announced he would sue the government after clashing with Home Secretary Priti Patel. Lord Kerslake said he wouldn't have done so unless he had been 'pushed to the limit'.
