Full Title: Looking for a Warm Fuzzy Feeling: Challenges of Designing an AI Platform for Drug Discovery
Speaker: Marek Kultys

Description:
We’re living through a digital revolution, where new technologies such as Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are transforming entire sectors, products, and services. Things are changing. The pharmaceutical industry is changing as well, trying to make the most of the new technologies to improve efficiencies and open new avenues for research and development. Examples include using AI to harness the explosion of biomedical data in target discovery, and applying ML to more precisely target patient subtypes that are most likely to respond to a given treatment.

At BenevolentAI, we create and apply AI technologies to transform the way medicines are discovered, developed, tested and brought to the market. In my talk, I will discuss some of the design challenges we try to solve as we continue to scale and develop our Benevolent Platform® – our computational and experimental drug discovery platform that enables scientists to uncover new ways to treat disease and personalise drugs for patients. I will explore challenges related to the complex and ambiguous nature of biomedical knowledge, uncertainty behind using evidence to make useful inferences, and designing for drug discoverers.
