Capturing & TAGGING Wild Steelhead!!! DNA Samples!

In this episode I was lucky to join my friends with the WDFW on a daily trip to check their weirs for trapped winter Steelhead! This was a Steelhead fishing adventure with a scientific twist! 2 out of 3 traps had no fish in them, however we got lucky and captured one beautiful wild female Steelhead, which we were able to measure, tag, scan for microchips, and take a DNA & scale sample from. I was very thankful for the WDFW to let me join along fish tagging, and learned a lot about the effort and science that goes into building and maintaining our fisheries! Now I just need to catch another Winter Steelhead myself before the runs are over! 😂
