Mabuhay! 🇵🇠My name is Nicole Campos, an ASEAN citizen residing in the Pearl of the Orient Seas, aka the Philippines!
You've probably come across the word ASEAN oe perhaps seen this logo.
But what exactly is ASEAN?
ASEAN is an organization formed with the following objectives:
1. Economic growth
2. Social progrwss
3. Cultural development
But what exactly is development?
After the second world war, the term development was defined in terms of GDP and GNP of a country. However, this did not account for other indicators.
A few decades later, a new definition of development entered the picture. This time, development accounted for the quality of human life. Indicators were formed based on the problems that emerged on each country.
One main idea to empower the youth is to urge people to take action. In the Philippines, a lot of people my age mean well to their community. However, they are not equipped to help in development initiatives.
It's important to let people know what they're going through. This can be done by presenting all sides of the problem to them so that they have a balanced picture of the society. We must empower the youth with information so they are aware of what they can and cannot to, as well as where to begin and how to process. Informing people with the cornerstone of the problem so that their help can be enlisted in the development process.
To achieve ASEAN's founding objectives, we must recognize that there is a need to create a balanced picture of the societu. Being an ambassador is more than getting behind the scenes of starving children. It's getting people to tell their own stories and guide them in doing so. We are able to give a voice to the voiceless through our networks. Above all, we deal with real people, specifically those not recognized by mainstream society.
An ambassador gives soul to a problem, giving it a human face.
