Ironically, the Watchtower/JW.org shortly after changed the policy in respect to treatment of unbaptized persons. But the damage was done -- the young couple were stumbled out of "God's Organization", fell into sin, and though they did get married, later divorced. Ray muses on how much their life would have been different had they been treated with true Christian compassion.
