STUMBLING 'little ones' -- JW elders brand unbaptized couple 'bad associations' (Franz freedom 172) [thumbnail pic: "Woe to the world due to the stumbling blocks! ... woe to the man through whom the stumbling block comes!" -- Matthew 18:7, NWT] Ray Franz's "In Search of Christian Freedom" tells the poignant and powerful story of a young couple who, despite committing no serious sin, were yet branded worthy of "disassociation" -- effectively meaning that though they were not even baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses, they would now have to be shunned by both JWs and their own mothers and sibllings. Ironically, the Watchtower/JW.org shortly after changed the policy in respect to treatment of unbaptized persons. But the damage was done -- the young couple were stumbled out of "God's Organization", fell into sin, and though they did get married, later divorced. Ray muses on how much their life would have been different had they been treated with true Christian compassion.
