Sales is an art. It is seen that small scale and medium scale and even big businesses often do not grow as a result of poor performance by the sales team.
Business growth largely depends on sales team performance. Unfortunately, most sales processes have a number of flaws in their execution. More than 80% of salespeople merely brag about their product's features. Rarely does a salesperson bother about their potential customer's needs. It is also seen that at times, for the sake of achieving targets, most salesmen tell lies and even pressurize customers for buying products. Not only this, there are times when salesmen behave very rude. These types of salesmen often fail in their careers and eventually end up giving up as they cannot increase company revenue.
Therefore, a good salesperson must have some special and unique qualities.I am sharing a few such qualities which I realized while I worked in different reputed companies as a marketing person.
1. Before sales, the salesperson first analyses the customer profile such as age, gender, lifestyle, marital status, personality, interest, behavior, income, occupation, nature and so on. Salesmen should have sound knowledge about their potential customers before approaching anyone.
2. Relation building is another significant aspect when it comes to sales. A good salesman bonds well with his customers and forms an emotional attachment with him or her. As a salesperson, you have to understand customer past issues, present problems, and future goals. You have to build a strong trust in yourself.
3. As a salesperson, you need to familiarise yourself completely with the customer requirement. You may ask a few questions like-problem-oriented questions, leading questions, open-Ended questions,close-ended questions, etc. As per the customer problem, you should provide a solution to that specific problem and your product will be sold for sure.
4. Don’t focus on price, rather focus on the quality of the product. You have to focus on the USP of your product and find out how it can solve your customer problem. Once you learn to succeed in convincing your customers with your product is unique or has a special quality, people would readily pay whatever you demand.
5.You should be able to differentiate between different types of customers.
The four main categories of customers in the market are:-
A)Those who only focus on price and negotiate a lot.
B)Those who only want knowledge through market research and never buy.
C)Those who look for a good quality product and can pay any amount for it. They also ask different logical questions and are actual buyers.
D) Those who they ask a lot but initially but often do not respond while you follow up by showing that they are busy.
You must use your energy and time for converting leads which are positive. You should also identify who is killing your maximum time and therefore make sure that you invest your time only in converting positive customers and not waste any time in timepass customers. Rather save your time to spend for new lead generation.
