Rotifers appear in clean rainwater

I had assumed that pure, clean rainwater in a clean bucket would remain lifeless for months, but when I looked into it after a couple months, I was shocked to find that it had become a mosquito breeding pond. Apparently there are so many creatures in the atmosphere that an open container of clean water becomes full of living creatures within weeks or months, depending on where you live and the day of the year.
