Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) answers whether it's ever okay to invite a foreign government to become involved in an investigation involving a political opponent. He says yes, and that it happens all the time. The Obama administration asked Great Britain, Italy Australia, and other countries to assist in its investigation of a person who was a political opponent from the opposite party. A member of the Intelligence Committee and Judiciary Committee was investigation Trump at the very moment he was running to replace him. And Congressman Castro, on the Intelligence Committee, was investigating Trump, as his brother ran against him. A president can and should ask for assistance from foreign governments in ongoing criminal investigations. There was an ongoing criminal investigation into what happened in 2016. AG Barr had appointed Durham to investigate that exact issue long before President Trump's July 25 phone call. (Dec. 12, 2012)
