東京都出身。幼少より芙二三枝子に師事。
青山学院大学文学部英米文学科、ジュリアード・スクール舞踊科卒。
1979年現代舞踊協会新人賞、2002年舞踊批評家協会賞、2013年現代舞踊協会群舞奨励賞、2016年ニムラ賞を受賞。1980年文化庁派遣芸術家在外研修員。
19年間のニューヨークでの活動の後、帰国。俳優座劇場、草月ホール、新国立劇場等で、作品を発表している。
2005年東京二期会オペラ実相寺昭雄演出「魔笛」振付、2011年井上道義演出、歌劇「イリス」振付、出演等、幅広い活動を行うと共に、後進の指導にも力を注いでいる。
HIKARI BABA DANCE COMPANY 主宰。日本女子体育大学非常勤講師。
（一社）現代舞踊協会理事。
2020年3月27日（金）東京芸術劇場プレイハウスにて行われる、都民芸術フェスティバルに、コレオグラファーとして選出され、新作「COSMIC RHAPSODY—宇宙狂詩曲」を発表する。
Profile
HIKARI BABA
born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She had former dance training from Mieko Fuji. She was graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University, and had BA in the major of English and American Literature, and also graduated from The Juilliard School in dance.
Hikari Baba had numerous awards such as The Prize for New Comers(’79) from Contemporary Dance Association of Japan, The Dance Critics Awards(‘02) and The Nimura Dance Award (’16).
She was a recipient of the scholarship for study in abroad from The Agency for Cultural Affairs in 1980.
After nearly 20years of residency in NY, she moved back to Japan and formed her company and performed in various places in Tokyo such as The Haiyu-za Theater, Sogetsu Hall, and The New National Theater. She had also choreographed for the Opera and the musical productions such as ”The Magic Flute” “Iris” and “The Soldier’s Tale”.
She has worked for the wide ranged of the productions as a choreographer and dancer, and at the same time, has been teaching enthusiastically. She is currently a faculty of The Japan Women’s College for physical education, the artistic director of HIKARI BABA DANCE COMPANY, and a member of the board of directors for Contemporary Dance Association of Japan. https.//hikaribaba.com
