Stagnating or gaining weight can discourage people who are desperately trying to lose weight. Here are 6 possible reasons for this problem.
Blood Sugar Dysregulation.
When ingesting carbohydrates, a person's blood sugar starts to rise. In response, the pancreas secretes insulin, the role of which is to maintain the balance of the level of glucose contained in the blood. Insulin is essential for human life, but it promotes fat storage when it is produced in excess.
Hormonal Imbalance.
Hormones have an incredible influence on our weight because they regulate BMR, or basal metabolic rate. A person's BMR is the number of calories they burn daily without taking physical activity into account. An imbalance of certain hormones such as cortisol, testosterone, estrogen and progesterone often leads to a decrease in BMR.
Hypothyroidism.
Thyroid hormones allow the body to break down fat and help the liver and pancreas to metabolize stored calories for energy. These hormones also help muscles throughout the body to use energy. And when there is an adequate supply of thyroid hormones in the body, the hypothalamus, which is a regulator of thyroid hormone in the brain, decreases the secretion of the regulatory hormone thyrotropin.
All of these actions can be stopped when you have a decrease in thyroid hormones or a decrease in thyroid function. In addition to the low energy symptoms, the body also stores calories, storing them as fat. The latter is particularly difficult to burn and metabolize.
Intestinal Dysbiosis.
Your body contains trillions of bacteria.
The majority of these bacteria are found in your intestines. Intestinal bacteria play several important roles in keeping you healthy, such as communication with your immune system and the production of certain vitamins.
Your gut bacteria can also affect the digestion of different foods and produce chemicals that help you feel full. Therefore, they can affect your weight.
The Stress.
Stress promotes the secretion of cortisol, a hormone that can increase blood sugar even in the absence of refined or processed foods. This process can cause the body to store fat, especially in the abdominal area, since blood sugar is linked to insulin.
Inflammation.
Few people know that there is a link between inflammation and weight gain. Indeed, one of the main causes of your weight gain and weight loss difficulties comes from this silent inflammation. The latter leads to protection and compensation phenomena on the part of our body. Weight gain is one of the consequences of these protective mechanisms.
