Exercises to perform initially after total hip replacement

Exercises to perform initially after total hip replacement You have just had your total hip replacement and you need to get moving to ensure you get the most of your hip.

Here are exercises that you should start with after your hip replacement:
1. Hip flexion-
In lying, slide your heel towards your bottom until knee is bent and then slide out again until leg is straight.

2. Hip abduction-
Lying on your back, slide your leg out to the side as far as possible.

3. Hip external rotation-
In lying with bent knees, lower one of your legs out to the side slowly and then bring it back.

4. Straight leg raises-
In lying with one leg straight and the other knee bent, pull ankle back towards you and lift straight leg into the air and slowly back down.

5. Hip flexion in standing-
In standing, lift your knee towards your chest as high as possible.

6. Hip extension in standing-
In standing, lift your leg backwards as high as possible without arching your back.

7. Hip abduction in standing-
In standing, lift your straight leg out to the side as high as possible without rotating your trunk backwards or bring your leg forward.
