In this Amex Blue Cash Preferred review, I compare the Blue Cash Preferred vs Everyday and calculate how much you would have to spend to make the $95 annual fee on the Preferred card worth it.
It's pretty common for people to compare the Blue Cash Preferred vs Everyday, because they're both credit cards offered by American Express, they offer similar cash back categories, and they're both "intermediate" level cards.
The Blue Cash Everyday Card Offers:
$0 Annual Fee
3% cash back at supermarkets up to the first $6000
1% cash back for streaming services
2% cash back at gas stations
2% cash back at department stores
1% cash back on all other purchases
$200 sign up bonus once you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months
Access to Amex app with additional cash back promotions
The Blue Cash Preferred Card Offers:
$95 Annual Fee
6% cash back at supermarkets up to the first $6000
6% cash back for streaming services
3% cash back at gas stations
1% cash back at department stores
1% cash back on all other purchases
$300 sign up bonus once you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months
Access to Amex app with additional cash back promotions
In my opinion, the 1% cash back categories are irrelevant, because with the Citi Doublecash card you get 2% back on everything you buy with no annual fee, and the Platinum One Quicksilver card offers 1.5% cash back on all purchase with no annual fee as well. So even though both the Blue Cash Preferred and the Blue Cash Everyday offer 1% categories, there's no reason to redeem purchases for 1% cash back when there are other cards that will give you 1.5%-2%.
Once you get rid of the 1% categories, it's much easier to compare the Blue Cash Preferred vs Everyday. After taking away 1% cash back categories, these cards offer:

Everyone's spending varies, so there is no magic number that you would have to spend to make the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card's $95 annual fee worth it. To find out if it would be worth it for you, try to estimate what your monthly usage of each category would be, and use a calculator to find out just how much cash back you would receive.
